  1. Foster Care and Adoption: Child welfare services may also be involved in placing children in foster care or helping families with the adoption process.

  1. Kinship Services: Child Welfare Services legally must engage fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and other non-relative and important people in the lives of children i.e. neighbors, teachers, coaches, and more when children are in foster care or need someone they know to care for them.

  1. Mental Health, Housing and other Support Services: Child Welfare Services can assist families who are homeless or need other supportive services like helping parents work with a child who has mental health needs, or juvenile delinquency behaviors.

Over the last 40 plus years these two words have been used interchangeably and mean the same thing.

The Federal Childrens Bureau and Child Welfare Information Gateway defines Child Welfare as “A continuum of services designed to ensure that children are safe and that families have the necessary support to care for their children successfully.

If you, your agency, non-profit or other service entity is working to improve outcomes for your children, family and communities that you serve, JMoore Consulting can help.  We will partner with your team to provide technical assistance, consultative knowledge and experience, assistance to improve compliance with State and Federal standards of practice, assessments of needs, implemented changes in workflow, efficiencies and efficacies to improve practice, service delivery outcomes using evidence based best practices.
